Timber Sale Administration

Interested in having your woodlot logged? I can work with you by setting up a customized timber harvest plan. This process will begin by understanding your goals as landowner and what you are seeking to gain from a harvest, such as income, wildlife enhancement, sustainable yield, or perhaps a mix of multiple objectives. After that, trees will be scaled, marked and tallied for harvest, which will then produce a timber volume report that breaks down volumes by species.

From there, I will market the sale to loggers and prospective buyers in order to find you the best deal on the market. Once a buyer signs a contract and begins cutting, I will also make periodic site inspections to ensure harvest standards are being met. Finally, once the harvest is complete, I will make sure the site has been properly retired by having the logger clean up and re-seed trails and roads so that erosion mitigation standards are met.

Timber Appraisals

Have you recently purchased property that is forested? Or looking to sell one that is? Are you in the process of planning an estate or preparing a trust? Or maybe you just want an idea of what you have in your woods? Whatever the case, a timber appraisal is a great way to learn how your forest is structured and what it is ultimately worth. With this, you will receive a detailed inventory report so you can learn how many trees you have by species, diameter class, volume, timber quality, and how that aligns value-wise with current markets. Imagery, topographic, and soil structure maps will also be provided for a visual perspective.

Timber Stand Improvement

Timber Stand Improvement (TSI) practices refer to a set of forest management activities aimed at improving the health, quality, and productivity of a forest. Similar to how one would weed a garden, this is typically accomplished by removing trees that are diseased, damaged, or a less valuable species, thus removing competition and improving the growth rate and resource availability for trees left behind. Girdling is another method where undesirable trees are killed but left standing in order to provide wildlife habitat. TSI can also be incorporated into a harvest, such as through an overstory removal where larger, mature trees are cut from overstocked timber stands which allows sunlight to reach trees in the mid and understories.
